Bae Soo Ji (Hangul: 배수지; Hanja: 裴秀智; born October 10, 1994), commonly known by her stage name Suzy, is a South Korean idol singer, actress, model and MC. She is a member of the Korean girl group miss A, which debuted under JYP Entertainment in 2010.
Biography
Suzy was born in Gwangju, South Korea on October 10, 1994. She attended Seoul Performing Arts High School. Before debuting, she was an online shopping mall model.[1] In 2009, she auditioned for Mnet Superstar K and made it through the preliminary round but she was ultimately eliminated. However, she caught the attention of a scout from JYP Entertainment and soon became a trainee. After training for a year, she was paired with fellow members Fei and Jia and was set to debut in China. With the sudden addition of Min into the group, the foursome prepared to debut as miss A.
Career

In July 2010, Suzy made her debut as a member of miss A, a girl group managed by JYP Entertainment, with the single "Bad Girl Good Girl" as a vocalist of the group.[2] After a successful promotion period of 7 weeks, the group came back in October with a new title track, "Breathe", from the second single Step Up. The group promoted the song for a month and had their last goodbye stage on November 7. The group then returned in July 2011 with the release of their first full-length studio album A Class with the title track "Good Bye Baby". The group held their goodbye stage in early September after finding great success with their album and title track. The group then turned their focus towards their overseas activities, including their Chinese debut.
Solo activities
In October 2010, she became the host for MBC Show! Music Core alongside Minho and Onew, both from SHINee and Jiyeon from T-ara.[3] In January 2011, Suzy played her first drama role in Dream High, which aired on KBS2 from January 3 to February 28.[4][5] In July 2011, she became one of the two hosts for Mnet 20's Choice Awards alongside actor Song Joong-Ki.[6] She won an award for the category "hot new star of 2011".[7] In September 2011, Suzy appeared as an MC for KBS Win Win for fill the vacant spot left by Lee Gi-kwang of BEAST[8] and Suzy alongside with Wooyoung make a cameo appearance on the KBS Drama Special Human Casino. In October 2011, it was confirmed that Suzy became a cast member in KBS2 TV reality show Invincible Youth 2 (청춘불패) in which Suzy was a part of G8, consisting of 8 girls from idol groups as Girls' Generation's Sunny and Hyoyeon, Kara's Jiyoung, f(x)'s Amber, SISTAR's Bora, Rainbow's Woori and Jewelry's Yewon. The show began filming its first episode on October 19 and the first episode of Invincible Youth 2 is aired on November 11.[9] On October 23, 2011, it was also announced that Suzy would make her first film debut in Introduction to Architecture. This romantic film was directed by Lee Yong Ju and starred several top-notch celebrities including Uhm Tae-woong, Han Ga In and Lee Jae Hoon. The film follows the love story of an architecture student (Uhm Tae-woong) who meets a student majoring in music (Han Ga In) during an ‘Introduction to Architecture’ class. He falls head over heels in love with her, and the experience turns into a memory of his first love. Years later, the student becomes an official architect and meets his first love again when she visits his office as a client. Suzy and Lee Jae Hoon will be playing as the younger versions of the two main leads.[10] On November 4, 2011, it revealed that Suzy will made a surprise appearance in the new music video titled Pretty but Hateful of former g.o.d.'s member Son Ho Young. Suzy played the role of the main female character and captivated the audience with her natural beauty and innocent charm. She left a strong impression by being able to cry on demand in the beginning of the MV.[11]
